About AWANA
Awana is an international Christian program for children. The name is an acronym for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, which is based on 2 Timothy 2:15: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of Truth.”
Awana began in 1950 as a youth program. Today, more than 12,000 U.S. churches run Awana. There are clubs in all 50 states. Awana can also be found in over 3,300 churches in 110 other countries and 6 continents. This means that each week over ONE MILLION kids attend an Awana club somewhere on Earth! Our goal is to provide a series of well-balanced physical, social, mental, and spiritual activities for children. Bible memorization is the heart of the program. As the children complete work in their handbooks, they receive a uniform and a variety of awards which reflect their accomplishments. In the process, they have LOTS OF FUN!
